We all have key events that happen throughout our lifetime that change our direction & open our eyes beyond our current reality. It is interesting to me how we have so many of these life changing moments, but at the time, we have no idea what kind of magic they possess & how they can change our lives & guide us to finding our passions & ultimately our life calling.
You would be forgiven for not seeing modern humans as natural runners. We have moving walkways at malls and airports, elevators in our offices and apartments, all comforts designed to keep us from exertion. And yet, though we long ago exchanged brains for brawn, endurance running is as human as community or society, and perhaps an indirect progenitor of those other two.
In the moment, I could not have known that taking a trip with Free the Children would unearth my passion for nutrition, but here I am six years later practicing as a Registered Dietitian.
The trip was to Kenya, and I was part of a group of 25 eager youth who were ready to see the world and to create change. I embarked on this journey expecting to make a positive difference in someone else’s life, to leave a small footprint in the world in which I live. What I did not expect was to have this experience shape me and my future.
