Rebecca Scharfstein, Pasand Co-Founder; MPP/MBA Candidate at Harvard University
As the daughter of an OB/GYN, Rebecca learned about the importance of women's health at an early age and has sought to improve women's health through social entrepreneurship and economics. In 2009, Rebecca worked at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School researching ovarian cancer markers using data from the Nurses' Health Study. Through her work, Rebecca recognized the importance of metrics-based analysis and brings a deep understanding of quantitative analysis to Pasand. Rebecca was a senior analyst at the Boston-based economic consulting Analysis Group and formerly the Executive Director (USA) of Pasand. Rebecca serves on the Board of Trustees of The Rashi School, an independent Jewish school in the Greater Boston Area. Rebecca holds an A.B. in Public and International Affairs from the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University and a certificate in environmental studies. She is currently pursuing her MPP/MBA at the Harvard Kennedy School and Harvard Business School.
Ashley Eberhart, Pasand Co-Founder; Consultant, Dalberg Global Development Advisors
Alongside her work for Pasand, Ashley is a Consultant at Dalberg Global Development Advisors, an advisory firm that supports nonprofits, foundations, and developing world governments in building strategies for social change. At Dalberg, Ashley has worked with a variety of clients, including the Gates Foundation, the World Bank, and USAID to design and evaluate programs. Her work has covered advocating for property rights for poor urban women, developing a funding strategy to enable safe surgery, especially emergency C-sections and maternal care in Africa, understanding how Ethiopia’s Ministry of Health could use data more effectively to deliver key health services to its most rural areas, and promoting private sector investment in health for the countries with the highest maternal and child mortality rates. Ashley is using her training at Dalberg to support Pasand more effectively, and hopes to ultimately pursue graduate studies in social impact design and evaluation. Ashley currently lives and works out of New York City, but is originally from Downers Grove, Illinois. She has worked in India, Haiti, South Africa, Namibia, Kenya, Ethiopia, and Italy.
Nupur Gupta, Attending Physician, MassGeneral Hospital for Children
Dr. Nupur Gupta is an attending physician in the Division of Adolescent Medicine at MassGeneral Hospital for Children. She completed her medical school and residency in pediatrics in India, where she gained a lot of experience working in the field with the Integrated Child Development Services. She furthered her expertise in the field and developed an interest in adolescent health while working in Australia and England, where she also obtained Membership of Royal College of Physician UK. Dr. Gupta subsequently completed her pediatric residency and a fellowship in adolescent medicine from Tufts Medical Center. She also received a Masters in Public Health with a concentration in International Health from the Harvard School of Public Health. After serving as Faculty in the division of Adolescent medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine she was recruited to start the "Center for Adolescent Health" at Milford Regional Medical Center, a large community hospital in central Massachusetts, where she served as medical director from 2002-2012. Dr. Gupta is currently involved in reproductive health and nutritional issues in adolescents, providing comprehensive adolescent health services in resource-limited settings, in teaching residents and medical students at MGH and at Harvard Medical School, and also co-edits the MassGeneral Hospital for Children Handbook of Pediatric Global Health.
Emily Oster, Associate Professor of Economics, Brown University
Emily Oster is an Associate Professor of Economics at Brown University. She has a BA and a Ph.D. in Economics, both from Harvard University. Prior to joining Brown she was on the faculty at the University of Chicago. Oster's work is on health and development economics. She has done work in Nepal on the role of menstruation in impacting schooling for girls, work in India on the relationship between television access and the status of women, and work in the US on the determinants of genetic testing for disease. She lives in Providence, RI with her husband and two children.
Bethany Withers, Associate, Goodwin Procter LLP
Beth Withers is an associate in Goodwin Procter LLP’s Technology Transactions Practice and Technology & Life Sciences Group. Prior to joining Goodwin Procter LLP, Beth served as the Policy & Programs Manager at the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Organization for Women (Mass. NOW). She has studied equality issues, worked and volunteered at domestic violence shelters and authored articles on gender issues, in particular regarding domestic violence and sexual assault committed by professional athletes. Beth holds a B.A. from Boston College, an M.A. from New York University and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.
Dharani Gokul Munirathinam, Global Senior Medical Scientist
Dr. Dharani Gokul Munirathinam is a doctor from India with over 12 years of experience in drug safety and related consulting. Currently, Dr. Dharani serves as the Global Senior Medical Scientist at a top biotech company on the West Coast. Dr. Dharani has over seven years of industry experience working for major pharmaceutical companies. Prior to his work in the pharmaceutical industry, Dr. Dharani spent nearly five years with a clinical practice, focusing on internal medicine, cardiovascular and metabolic therapeutics. In addition, he has published numerous articles and contributed to textbooks within the clinical research industry. He is also member of various scientific organizations, including the Indian Medical Association (Poonamalle Branch) and Editorial Member of the South American Journal of Clinical Research. Dr. Dharani received his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, Medicine from Sri Ramchandra Medical College and Research Institute. He is very passionate about giving back to the society and is excited by the vision and mission of Pasand.
